Respect for Your Information

Mishkiki respects the trust you place in us when you share personal information. Our relationships with communities are grounded in care, respect, and responsibility. This policy explains how we handle information connected with our website, inquiries, workshop bookings, newsletter, and contributions.

This policy applies to information handled by Mishkiki through our website and related communications. Other organizations’ websites and services have their own privacy practices. Following an external resource, social media, or payment link takes you to a service operated by another organization.

Information You Share With Us

When you contact us or request programming, we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address, telephone number, organization or community, location, preferred dates, and message. Booking correspondence may also include invoicing and event arrangements.

We use this information to respond, prepare quotes, coordinate services, communicate about bookings, and maintain related records. Please avoid sending personal health details, financial credentials, or identifiable information about participants through a general website form.

Newsletter Subscriptions

Our newsletter uses Jetpack, provided by Automattic and WordPress.com. When you subscribe, your email address and subscription information are processed to confirm your subscription, deliver updates, and manage your preferences. The service also processes technical information, including IP addresses and request information, to help prevent abuse and spam.

Subscription management may involve a WordPress.com account. Jetpack may provide us with subscription and email engagement information, such as opens and link clicks, depending on available features and settings.

Subscribing is optional. Use the unsubscribe or subscription-management link in an email to stop receiving updates. You can also contact info@mishkiki.org for assistance. Sending an inquiry or booking a workshop does not by itself subscribe you to the newsletter.

Automattic’s Privacy Notice for Visitors to Our Users’ Sites

Website Operation & Cookies

Our website, mishkiki.org, runs on WordPress and is hosted by Bluehost. Hosting and website services process technical information needed to deliver pages, maintain performance, manage accounts, and protect the site. This can include IP addresses, browser and device information, requested pages, and access times.

Essential cookies support functions such as security, administrator login sessions, and remembering your privacy choices. They are separate from optional statistics cookies.

We use WPConsent to present cookie choices and remember your preferences. You can accept or reject optional cookies, choose categories through the preferences panel, and change your choice using the Cookie Settings button below. Rejecting optional statistics cookies does not prevent you from reading our public pages.

You can also remove or restrict cookies through your browser settings. Removing the consent-preference cookie may cause the banner to appear again. Some website functions may be affected if you block essential cookies.

Jetpack and connected WordPress.com features also process technical and usage information to provide their services, including subscriptions and website functionality. Their handling of visitor information is described in Automattic’s visitor privacy notice.

Google Analytics

With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 through MonsterInsights to understand how people find and use our website and to improve its content and navigation.

Analytics information can include pages visited, interactions, referral sources, visit times, browser and device information, approximate location, and browser identifiers. These identifiers can distinguish visits without containing your name; this information should not be understood as fully anonymous.

Google processes IP addresses during collection to derive information such as approximate location. Google states that Google Analytics 4 does not log or store individual IP addresses.

Google Analytics uses cookies such as _ga and a property-specific _ga_ cookie to distinguish browsers and maintain session information. Their default duration is up to two years; actual duration can vary with configuration and browser restrictions.

Optional statistics cookies are subject to your cookie preferences. Changing your choice governs future activity; it does not automatically erase information previously collected. Contact us about questions or requests concerning that information.

Cookie Details

The list below displays the cookies documented in our consent manager, including their purposes and recorded durations. Cookies associated with administrator sign-in or a feature you do not use may not apply to your visit.

Forms & Email Delivery

We use Jetpack Forms for website inquiries. Form submissions are processed through the website and connected services so we can receive, manage, and respond to your message. Copies may be held in website records and email correspondence.

Website email delivery tools and our email service providers process recipient addresses, message content, and delivery information as needed to transmit and receive messages. Jetpack newsletter delivery is handled separately by Automattic.

Contributions & Payment Information

Interac e-Transfer contributions are sent through your own financial institution to info@mishkiki.org. We receive the transaction details made available by our bank, which may include your name, amount, reference information, and any message you include. We use these details to identify, acknowledge, reconcile, and keep records of contributions.

If you follow a contribution link to Facebook or another external provider, that provider processes the information you submit under its own terms and privacy policy. Mishkiki does not ask for your online banking password through this website.

When Information Is Shared

Information is shared with the people and service providers needed to handle your request, deliver programming, operate the website, send email, and administer transactions. For example, relevant event details may be shared with the facilitator involved in your booking.

We may also disclose information with your consent or where required or permitted by applicable law. We do not sell personal information. Service providers may process or store information outside your province or Canada, where different laws and lawful access requirements may apply.

Photographs, Stories & Cultural Knowledge

Our website includes photographs, biographies, and stories connected with our work. If you have a question or concern about an image or information identifying you or a child in your care, contact us with the page address and details so we can review it.

We respect that cultural knowledge carries responsibilities and may be subject to community protocols and permissions. Please speak with us before sending knowledge, recordings, or materials that are private, ceremonial, or restricted.

Retention & Safeguards

We retain information for the purposes for which it was collected and for related administrative, accounting, legal, or dispute-resolution requirements. Retention depends on the type of record. When information is no longer needed, we take steps to delete or de-identify it, subject to applicable requirements and backup processes.

We take reasonable measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information to limit unauthorized access, loss, misuse, and disclosure. No online transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Your Choices, Requests & Concerns

You can contact us to ask about information we hold about you, request access or correction, ask for deletion, or withdraw consent for a use that depends on consent. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Some requests may be limited by legal obligations, other people’s privacy, or records we must retain; we will explain any applicable limitation.

You can raise a privacy concern with Joshua Martin, Executive Director, at info@mishkiki.org or (705) 770-0550. Please describe the issue and provide enough information for us to locate the relevant records, without including passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.

If your concern remains unresolved, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or another privacy authority with jurisdiction over the matter.

Changes to This Policy

We will update this policy as our services or information practices change. The date above identifies the latest revision. Where a new use or disclosure requires additional consent, we will seek that consent rather than relying solely on an update to this page.
