Mishkiki means “medicine” in Anishinaabemowin — the sacred power that brings healing, balance, and life. Our name reflects our purpose: to carry this medicine into every community and help heal the wounds left by colonialism.
As an Indigenous-founded organization, Mishkiki walks in both worlds — blending traditional knowledge with modern tools to strengthen our Nations. Through cultural education, empowerment, and community development, we work to restore identity, dignity, and hope.
Our initiatives include clean water and housing projects, renewable energy and self-sustainability programs, economic growth and infrastructure development, and the revitalization of art, culture, and language.
We are guided by the teachings of our ancestors — to walk in a good way, to lift our people, and to bring balance back to the land and to each other. Mishkiki is not only what we do — it is who we are.
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to bring the medicine of our ancestors to heal every community through cultural education, socioeconomic empowerment, and sustainable development.
Blending modern life skills with Indigenous traditional knowledge empowers youth and adults to succeed in today’s world while remaining grounded in their culture and identity. These interactive empowerment workshops teach practical tools such as communication, leadership, financial literacy, and career readiness — alongside cultural values, language, and ancestral teachings.
From an Indigenous perspective, true empowerment comes from balance — understanding both modern systems and traditional ways of being. By combining these teachings, participants strengthen their confidence, cultural identity, and sense of purpose.
These workshops also focus on prevention and awareness of social issues affecting Indigenous youth, such as substance abuse, mental health challenges, violence, and loss of cultural identity. Through culturally rooted learning, sharing circles, and land-based approaches, participants build resilience, learn positive coping strategies, and develop a stronger sense of belonging.
Ultimately, these programs prepare individuals to walk confidently in both worlds — equipped with life skills, cultural pride, and the knowledge to lead healthy, empowered lives while uplifting their communities.

Our Cultural education workshops are vital to preserving and revitalizing Indigenous identity, languages, and traditions. From an Indigenous perspective, culture is not just something to be learned — it is a way of life that connects us to our ancestors, communities, and the natural world.
These workshops create safe spaces for sharing traditional teachings, ceremonies, and art forms that were once suppressed by colonial policies. They help strengthen community pride, restore intergenerational knowledge, and promote healing from historical trauma.
By engaging in cultural learning, participants develop a deeper understanding of Indigenous worldviews, values, and responsibilities — including respect, reciprocity, and balance. Cultural education is essential for building stronger communities and ensuring that Indigenous knowledge continues to guide future generations.

Our land-based education workshops reconnect participants to Indigenous ways of knowing by learning directly from the land — our first teacher. Through hands-on experiences such as harvesting, storytelling, and ceremony, participants gain cultural knowledge, environmental awareness, and a deeper sense of identity and belonging.
These workshops promote healing, cultural revitalization, and sustainability by restoring relationships with the land, language, and traditional teachings. Grounded in Indigenous values of respect, reciprocity, and stewardship, land-based learning helps participants walk in balance — physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Across Turtle Island, Indigenous youth, families, and Knowledge Keepers are building stronger, healthier communities. Mishkiki supports this work by advancing community-led solutions that improve daily living, restore dignity, and strengthen long-term wellness—especially where essential services have been historically underfunded or inaccessible.
Many Indigenous communities continue to face critical gaps in basic infrastructure and community services, including:
Safe and reliable housing
Access to clean drinking water
Food security and local food production
Land stewardship and environmental wellness
Under-resourced community service programs
While governments delay, these needs remain urgent. Your support brings real solutions directly to the communities that need them most.
Mishkiki maintains one of the country’s most extensive Indigenous-led engagement networks, with over 7,000 verified contacts across First Nations, Tribal Councils, and Indigenous organizations nationwide.
Through this network, we help communities advance high-impact initiatives such as:
Modular and emergency-ready housing
Solar atmospheric water generation systems
Food sovereignty and community growing projects
Land stewardship and environmental trauma recovery
Critical community programs and services
Each project is designed in partnership with communities and grounded in Indigenous knowledge and values.
