Jared BigCanoe Born and raised on Georgina Island First Nation, Jared BigCanoe has been raised traditionally Ojibwe for his entire life. He started grass dancing as soon as he could walk at the age of one years old, and singing at the age of 4 when he was gifted his own drum. Raised on the powwow trail, Jared was gifted access to a wealth of knowledge about his peoples history, ceremonies and customs. At the age of 12 he started writing lyrics for hip-hop songs, using his past experiences and future ambitions as source for conscious content. Jared has been successful with passing positive messages to the youth and has effected the lives of people in all age groups with his teachings and voice of empowerment both artistically and professionally. He has to this date given hundreds of performances for thousands of people, facilitated many workshops and has founded three small businesses.
